Kamisafe Tabletop Tripod
Kamisafe Tabletop Tripod Opening
After one of my small tabletop tripods failed to support my camera any longer, I found myself in the market for a medium-sized tabletop tripod. I was looking for one that was sturdy enough to support my Sony FDR AX 53 handy cam or my Nikon DSLR.
I was also looking for one that was about a foot long and that had flexible legs that would allow me to wrap them around a non-traditional support or easily adjust their spacing to get a level mount.
Now the big gorilla in this market, pun intended, is a flexible tripod with quite a following. It’s similar model is also about $50 dollars. Since I usually go for products in the low to middle side of the price range I was happy when a vendor who’d seen some of my other reviews offered one up for review.
Many of these products sold on Amazon and other large online retailers really don’t have brand names. In this case, the tripod came with a box labeled Kamisafe. I’ll link to the tripod below.
Tripod Features
The set included the tripod with a nice storage bag, a spring-style phone mount to use when using your smartphone’s camera, a GoPro action camera style hinge mount, and a small fob style Bluetooth shutter trigger, again for use with your smartphone. The fob has shutter buttons for both iOS and android and the instructions state it’s for use shooting photos, not video.
Tripod Assessment
After playing around with the tripod a bit, here are a couple of things I noticed.
First the flexible legs seem strong and stiff. They can be bent around things but take some effort which hopefully translates in to strong support and long life.
The ball head on the top is removable if you have another head or just don’t need it. I like that the adjusting mechanism using a screw to lock the ball in place and not a spring tab. I have a couple of small lightweight tripods with spring tabs which work fine under light loads but the screw looks to be a better solution for heavier cameras.
The action camera and phone mounts are a nice touch for the tripod kit. Many will likely already have such mounts but if you’re just starting out and this tripod is one of your first accessories, having these mounts will save you a couple of bucks.
