Comica CVM WM100 Plus Wireless Mic System

CVM WM100 Plus Overview

In this review we’re going to take a look at the Comica CVM WM100 Plus wireless microphone set.

The Plus part of the description is that unlike the CVM WM100, this wireless mic system includes two transmitters and a dual channel receiver that allows you to record two subjects at the same time into one device mounted on your camera or audio recorder.

Besides looking like professional wireless mics, the Comica CVM WM100 Plus system has some pretty impressive specs that will entice intermediate level film makers and YouTube content creators.

These mics operate in the UHF or 500 megahertz band. With that in mind, you’ll still be dealing with channels that will have to match between transmitter and receiver unlike sets using the 2.4 gigahertz band. The equipment comes with 48 different channels to choose from so it’s unlikely you’ll end up with any significant interference problems.

The transmitters transmit up to about 15 decibel milliwatts. That’s about 30 milliwatts of power. With the longer antennas found on this set, Comica claims a transmitting range of about 160 feet on the low power setting and over 300 feet on the high power setting in uncongested areas.

CVM WM100 Plus Features

A couple of features I’ll point out include 3.5 millimeter mic attachments that screw into the receivers to lessen the chance that the mic and receiver become disconnected.

There is also a handy infrared pairing system that allows the user to set the channel and other settings on the receiver and then sync them to the transmitter.

Both the transmitter and receiver have numerous menu items that allow you to set the power levels, group A and B channels, low pass filters and the like. This allows for a fair amount of mic management within the microphone system, before the sound makes it to your recorder or camera’s sound control options.

Additional accessories include fuzzy wind covers for the mics, a camera mounting adapter, belt clips, USB charge cords and a nice XLR adapter if your recorder or camera has an XLR connector instead of a 3.5 millimenter one.

One last thing I’ll mention here is you can use regular AA alkaline batteries or rechargeable AAs. You can also use the USB cord to recharge rechargeable batteries while they’re in the transmitters or receiver.

CVM WM 100 Plus Pros and Cons

There are two advantages of having a wireless microphone set with two transmitters. The obvious one is that you can record two folks at the same time. That means that you can shoot an interview without having two sets of wireless mics to mess with. The generous range of this mic set will allow you to set up a camera in an unobtrusive location and get a nice wide scene setting shot while also capturing good audio.

The other advantage is that you can use the second transmitter when the first transmitter’s batteries get low. You can set both transmitters to either group A or group B so you’ll have a backup.

The Infrared channel matching feature is also pretty cool. Accessed via the menu system on the receiver, to sync the transmitter you simply hold the two devices close to each other and they’ll sync up. You’ll need to change between group A and B on the menu to properly sync by group.

Speaking of the menu system, it’s both a pro and a con. You can set several variables in the menu system and the good news is that once set, you’re not likely to need to mess with them too often.

The bad news is that the only way to make the changes is through the menu. That means cycling through the menu buttons using the plus and minus keys and then using a long press on the set button to enter the setting page, using the plus and minus keys to select the variable setting and then using a short press on the set button to confirm the selection.

While none of this is hard, a couple of switches for things like low cut filter or volume output would help while on the go.

Assessment

Overall, I’m very impressed with this CVM WM100 Plus wireless mic set. The feature set is strong and the build quality is solid. As you heard in the range test samples, the audio quality is excellent and the range appears to match the claims in the product literature. When you add the professional style appearance of the transmitters and receiver, I haven’t found anything to complain about.

The CVM WM100 Plus was provided by Comica for my honest review. The vendor had no input into the review.
